Is my website’s contact form actually sending me messages?

Last updated October 5, 2026

A contact form can look perfect, show “Thanks, we’ll be in touch”, and still never deliver the message to you. Nobody tells you, because the customer thinks they’ve contacted you and you never hear from them.

Test it in two minutes

  1. Open your website on your phone, not logged in to anything.
  2. Fill in the form with your own name and a personal email address.
  3. Send it, then check the inbox the form is supposed to deliver to, including the spam folder.
  4. Reply to the message to make sure the reply reaches the address you entered.

Do this every few months, and always after changing your website, hosting or email.

What usually goes wrong

  • The form sends to an old email address nobody checks any more.
  • Your hosting can’t send email reliably, so messages are dropped or land in spam.
  • The form points to a script or service that no longer exists after a website change.
  • A spam filter on the form is so strict it blocks real people too.

Give customers more than one way

Put your phone number and email address on your site as well, as tappable links. If the form ever breaks, customers still have a way to reach you.
